Frequently Asked Questions About Bail Bonding

Big Sky Bail Bonds provides services to help people in custody be released from jail. We offer our assistance throughout Montana. Read on for more information about what we do.

What is a Bail Bond?

This is a form of insurance given to the court to secure release from custody. It is meant to guarantee the individual's appearance at all court hearings.

What should I know before contacting a Bail Bondsman?

Knowing the basic information of the person in custody would be helpful. This includes their name, the detention center they’re being held at, and if possible, how much the bail is. We’ll work with you through the process so you don’t need to have a lot of information.

Do I need collateral?

There are instances where collateral may be required. Having collaterals help in securing the bail bond and guaranteeing the defendant’s attendance in all court meetings.

The collateral is returned only when the bond has been completely discharged by the courts, with a guilty, non-guilty, or dismissed verdict. Once the court has discharged the bond and we receive it, the collateral is returned to the rightful individual.

What collaterals are accepted?

This varies per situation but we accept the following:

  1. Vehicles
  2. Credit Cards
  3. Real Estate
  4. Cash
  5. Personal Checks

Do I get my premium back once the case is over?

No. The premium paid to the bail bondsman is not refundable. This fee allowed the defendant to get out of jail and is fully earned once the defendant is out of custody. An individual who is rearrested is not eligible to receive a refund on the previous bond, even if it happens within the day.

How do I get a Bail Bond?

Give us a call. We have offices in Helena, Butte, Missoula, Kalispell, and Livingston but we can post the bond for you with any court in Montana.
